I've purchased a couple of these drives over the years, and they were a great choice for a cheap Phison-based DRAMless drive with proper firmware support (unlike most low end brands using Phison). Performance varied depending what flash happened to be binned for that batch, but firmware support = reliability and build was the usual nice solid Kingston.I tried a lower priced Silicon Power A58 drive of this class recently for comparison, and was not impressed by the cheap plastic drive casing, plus firmware support is unlikely to be as good despite having a toolbox utility.Seeing Kingston recently drop pricing to SP's levels, I ordered one of these again hoping for the usual A400 experience. Unfortunately, the new drive had terrible IOPS in comparison to the expected Phison + 3D TLC flash which clearly points to QLC being used now. Firmware naming was also purely numeric versus the usual Phison alphanumeric, so some other controller is now being used--possibly SMI, as they were apparently used in prior high capacity versions of these with QLC.Application trace-type performance testing using PCMark shows similar bandwidth to older versions of the drive despite terrible IOPS in the < 40k range. This means the new controller's SLC caching works very effectively and should perform similar to older A400s with TLC (as long as the drive is not pushed for very long), but I wouldn't consider the firmware to be mature like the older drives.I've attached AS-SSD tests showing IOPS under the default 1GB "light load" testing from older versions of this drive vs the newer one. I've also attached the 10GB test from the new QLC version showing it faceplant into < 20k IOPS despite similar latency / responsiveness as the old versions. Firmware versions of the older drives are visible showing the usual Phison firmware naming vs the new model.Despite the new lower pricing, I'd probably put up with cheap Silicon Power A58 build quality at this price point to get better 3D TLC flash and a more mature design. This is kind of a sad turn for the A400, but if I see any development from Kingston on this new controller's firmware support I will update this review with a more positive rating.

Comprei para dar um upgrade no meu notebook (Lenovo Ideapad 330) e está atentendo a demanda, ainda estou nas instalações, mas já verifiquei uma melhora no desempenho da máquina, ótimo para quem quer dar uma acelerada no notebook mas assim como eu não tem muitos programas, acredito que se tiver um maior número de softwares seja interessante adquirir um com mais GBs!
