Product Description
Mini DC Power Supply HM310
The 2020 Mini DC Power Supply HM310 upgraded has an amazing design. The full-screen design and the all-metal body make it look so exquisite. Compared with similar products, it has a smaller size, only 9.0inx5.9inx3.1in, compact and portable. Based on feedback from a large number of users, we have increased Output Switch control, Anti-collision lock and other practical functions. We used a better circuit board. This variable DC power supply is a very stable, regulated DC power supply. It has the characteristics of low ripple and noise, high accuracy, high reliability, perfect overload and short circuit protection circuits, and it is especially suitable for laboratory, school and electronic maintenance. Designed for laboratory and industrial use.
Output Switch Control
Sometimes we need to switch another voltage or current , but we often forget to unplug the previous instrument and cause the instrument to burn out, which often occurs in the maintenance.Output key is designed to solve this problem.By long pressing the Output button, the required voltage and current can be adjusted without the actual output power,Which makes this DC power supply more secure and more energy efficient.
Anti-collision Lock
Press and hold the current adjustment button to lock the current and voltage. It prevents wrong voltage and current output caused by accidental collision.
Compact and Portable
Due to the use of a more compact circuit board, this DC regulated power supply is also more compact under the conditions of richer functions and higher accuracy, the performance is beyond linear power supply. Compared with liner DC power supply, more compact, lighter, portable and Compact and the size is only 9.0inx5.9inx3.1in

Nice compact size and fits into any corner of your workbench. I love that the three different readings are different colours which makes it super easy to see at a glance what is going on. Controls are good and take only a few seconds to figure out. I also really like that there is a switch for turning on the output so that you can adjust the settings before actually sending power out to the device you are working on.
Now you can't compare this to other "professional" units that cost many times more than this. This unit is made for a hobbyist that will use it occasionally. If you need something very precise and made to work all day, every day, you need to spend a lot more money. But for most people, this will be a great unit for their workbench.
I use this for powering a variety of older electronics that no longer have their original power supplies, as well as for building small projects that need specific voltages. Very happy with my purchase. This unit has done a great job powering 99.9% of my projects and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a basic, hobbyists power supply.

Caution ! I would not recommend using this to charge batteries . If the current control value is overecxceeded the back EMF from the battery may become a problem .
This little power supply will do the job just fine.
It looks to be made well, the innards are different from what the add shows not that it matters it's still made very well.
I powered up a 24 volt gearhead motor that pulls 8.5 amps, it handled that with no problem.
I'm planning on getting another one that outputs higher voltages for use on higher voltage projects.

Update: I had a chance to work for several hours with the unit and I can say that it was an absolute charm to work with. There is a slight learning curve on how to adjust the voltage and current but once you know it, it is easy to operate. I love this little power supply.
II. The USB at the front is for charging and it is working (see photo charging my USB battery pack)
III. What fan noise it is working for 2 days now nonstop at 5-10 watts and I never heard the fan, but it is there.
IV. Nice foot peg, it won't scratch your bench.
V. All metal case, great.
VI. There is a little ON/OFF button Orange when OFF Green when ON.
VII. The test leads are indeed a little bit cheap, I will probably need to make some solder at the alligator clips.
VIII. The lights are a little dim.
Specs. says Voltage load regulation <=0.1%+5mV (see all specifications in the photo)
A cheap DMM has about 0.8% so watch it when you use a cheap DMM for measuring the accuracy.
******** There was a rebate of $20C in august so this product can become really cheap.
Bye !

For the price, I have to say there is little I dislike. I was puzzled the positive terminal had a black terminal connector. The unit has a thin red band, but this is just a little confusing.
Putting a meter on it, the voltage is not as accurate as the indicator says, but this is minor. For this price point, you can't expect millivolt precision, but it is within +/- 50 mV (manual says 5mV accuracy, but with a 10mV resolution how can they possibly tell?), which is not bad for most applications.
Anyhow, this is a decent product for tinkering around at home or in a garage.
1. To do low voltage electrolytic rust removal. I have not tested the unit in that regard yet as I don't have my tank set up, but I have an old 1940s Craftsman bandsaw that I am restoring. I intend to remove the old paint and rust using electrolysis, so I'll report back on that with my results once I'm finished. Based on the fact that I used to use an old car battery charger without any sort of precise control over the current, I'd imagine that this unit will be light years better for the job as long as I don't exceed the amperage rating.
2. I do a lot of automotive work, including upfitting emergency lights, sirens, etc. This unit is perfect for bench testing lights prior to install! Many new LED surface mount lights can be synced together, and flash patterns changed via applying either 12v+ or 12v- to the pattern wire. This unit makes it an absolute breeze to lay out your light heads, apply power, select the flash pattern you want and get the lights ready for install. I also was able to bench test the HID ballasts on some old TYRI lights that came off of a Cat bulldozer. This isn't usually an easy task for me because most heavy equipment runs 24v electrical systems, which I wasn't set up for before now. No problem with this power supply though - I just dialed in 24v, hooked up the lights and away we went. Both fired right up.
I really like the fact that the on/off switch is on the front face of the unit (no fumbling with clunky switches on the back), with a separate output control button. This means you can power it up to set your current, but the leads aren't hot until you turn the output on. This makes it a breeze to change current settings on the fly without any risk to your equipment. Overall I think this was money very well spent. I'll update the review with any issues but I'm a happy camper for the time being.
Where I find the power supply lacking is in the constant current mode. The low end current readout is not accurate. For example, with the power supply operating in constant current mode and the max current set to 1mA (1 milliamp or 0.001A (same same)) the actual current measure with my fluke 189 DMM was 4.9mA, or about 500% higher than what is set. This only happens on the low end. If you set 20mA, that's about what you get.
This lack of low current control can be a problem for things like electroplating where you may want to set 2 to 3 milliamps of current.
The other issue I noticed is related to this being a microprocessor controlled (edited for error) power supply. Lets say, for example, you want to test an LED at 20-milliamps. You set a voltage of 5-volts and set the current limit of 20-milliamps. This should limit the amps to 20mA. However, when you connect the LED the measured in-rush current is about 130mA, more than 6-times the 20mA that is set, causing the LED to flash brightly for a fraction of a second before settling at 20mA. This is only a problem for things that are very sensitive to short current surges. This happens because it takes several milliseconds for the power supply to switch over to constant current mode.
Depending on what your needs are, this may be a great power supply for you, or not usable at all.
I'll be keeping this power supply as it works well for many projects, but also, probably buying a digital one too. If you need to control current in the low milliamp range, look to a digital power supply, or solder up an LM317T operating in constant current mode.
