we absolutely love it. there’s a lot of games and fun things for the visually impaired which is a huge bonus for my household. So far “dungeon adventures” is the biggest hit. It easily paired with my music streaming services with Amazon music and Apple Music. I love having amazon audible books in nearly every room in the house for the kids to listen too daily. I can control them all from my phone to set up daily routines, alarms, make announcements, tell jokes, and I love the “drop in” feature so I can call home from my phone when I’m away…they never answer their phones lol….the light bulb is a big bonus, it works very well and dims to whatever percentage I tell it too turns on and off on demand which is nice when getting into bed being able to turn lights off when everyone is ready and they can control their lights with simple voice commands. We use the Alexa daily. Love the ease of being able to turn things on/ off when you're hands are full, you already got in bed, or you're in another room. Also love the routines for things like Xmas lights or reptile warming bulbs. We use the announcement and drop in features to wake kids and check on their "getting ready" progress without having to stop what we're doing. We play music, add to our shopping list, and set timers all of the time.
It seems that Alexa's ability to look up info is a far cry from Google's (we often get "I don't know that" and then find it immediately on our phone) and sometimes Alexa misunderstands to a frustrating degree or randomly says something like "I didn't hear that." Overall, a great addition and we have one in 4 rooms+garage of our house... which isn't huge. They're handy.

I got one of these for Christmas. The functionality is great for my daily life (helps so much with reminders and routines and scheduling when you have a flighty artist brain with poor memory) but the sound quality was really bad. Sounded like it was played from a tin can. Really quiet, tinny, no bass, just gross and appalling. Like worse than from my iPhone's built in speakers. I was like 'oh well, guess it's not supposed to be a music speaker.'

A month later I bought another one for another room because I liked having the first one so much. This one was SO much better sounding than the first. It blew me away. The quality was crazy. It was on par with my studio monitors even, and waay better than my previous bluetooth speakers I was using. I was shocked and realized the first one had been a dud.

Luckily I could still return the original and when I got the replacement.. the new one had the SAME issue as the first! Speaker was awful. Returned it again and finally got one that sounded great. Moral of the story, if it sounds awful you got a dud and keep replacing it until it sounds like a good speaker should. Apparently this is a common problem if I got 2 out of 3 with a bad speaker in it.

I think the 4rd Gen Dot itself is great when functioning properly and I like the design. I wish there was a wireless option, but the chord isn't too obstructive, just hate that I can't move it around. 'Alexa' itself has problems yes but
I consider that a separate issue from the actual speaker, which is what this review is about. It's my first experience with an Alexa product and I'm pleased with it. Sucked having to deal with customer service so much just to get a functioning product but it was worth it in the end.
