5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Saturday Afternoon Programmer ... ..., June 28 2004
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra proves that THEY can make em' like they used to. This movie actually feels and looks like it was made around 1961. This movie was shot in black and white and filmed in Bronson Canyon, California where many other B-Monsters found a hospitable home while trying to conquer the earth. Even the musical score sounds like the stock library music B-Movie filmmakers used in those days. So if you love
Plan Nine From Outer Space (1958) and Catwomen on the Moon (1952) then you will really enjoy this film.
In this Special Edition DVD of The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
you get:
1) A Technicolor 1940s Ub Iwerks cartoon "Skeleton Frolic"
2) "Obey The Lost Skeleton!" making of featurette.
3) Two separate audio commenteries. The Director (Larry Blamire) and Crew. And a very funny Cast commentary.
4) "Q and A at the American Cinematheque". Quite interesting.
5) Full color blooper reel.
6) "Virtual Skelectables". A Imaginary collection of early 1960s Lost Skeleton bubble gum cards, games, drinking glasses
and box cover art of a "Aurora Model Kit" of the alien mutant
monster from the Lost Skeleton movie. Stuff you will never find
on EBay.
7) Last but not least, a excellent retro style Lost Skeleton
I really enjoyed and appreciated "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra". Check it out and ENJOY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tarzan Movie, June 9 2004
This simply has got to be one of the best Tarzan films ever made. Yet I can't help feeling that this Tarzan film is merely
a great prelude of what could have been a great series of more
Tarzan films. Christopher Lambert was excellent as Tarzan/John Clayton and Andie MacDowell looked beautiful as Jane (dubbed by
Glen Close). The scene of the jungle explorers traveling down
a African river via tramp steamer reminded me of Disney World's
Jungle Cruise ride exactly. Beautiful cinematography and Rick
Baker's ape effects were fantastic. This Tarzan film seems to take place around the late 1890s - early 1900s, so the attention
to period detail was very well done. So if jungle adventure and
romance is to your liking, check out this terrific film. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic Screwball Comedy, June 3 2004
Relax out there folks, this DVD presentation of My Favorite Wife
is NOT COLORIZED. Rainsilver BLACK and WHITE it is. Others have
done a excellent job here at giving the plot details and their
judgements of this film, so I won't bother. Personally, I really
enjoyed this comedy. Bring out the popcorn and ENJOY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glittering With Pixie Dust ... ..., May 9 2004
Peter Pan (2003) is one gorgeously produced film with lots of real heart put into it. One of those rare films where the dazzling special effects actually takes a back seat to just a great classic children's story to be told here. No corny musical interludes (where you've just got to hit the fast forward scan button) are to be found here. Jason Isaacs portrayal of Captain Hook has a excellent Basil Rathbone flavor to it. Mr. Isaacs also portray's Mr. Darling to equally great effect. I really enjoyed this movie. The DVD also features a alternate ending to see what happened to Wendy all grown up.
Tons of "making of" extras. Sadly, no Director's commentary.
I could go on and on about my admiration for this film. Til' Then, ENJOY.

Great classic stuff here. In my mind Lon Chaney Jr. was always my favorite Wolfman. You really feel sorry for Lawrence Stewart Talbot being cursed with lycanthropy. In this set you get:
1) The Werewolf of London (1935)
2) The Wolfman (1941)
3) Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman (1943) By the way is actually
a sequel to both The Wolfman (1941) and The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), continuity wise.
4) She-Wolf of London (1946)
5) a 45 minute documentary, Monster By Moonlight. Pretty much a
history of Universal's Wolfman mixed with actual Werewolf lore.
6) Tom Weaver does commentary on a separate audio track of The Wolfman (1941). Extremely interesting P.O.V..
7) A neat peek at Van Helsing's homage to Universal's classic
All in all I really enjoyed this set. I just can't wait until
Universal raids their Atomic Age Monster vaults like this. Til'
then, ENJOY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed To Keep You Awake Late Into The Night ... ..., April 26 2004
This review is from: Ghost Story [Import] (DVD)
Universal plans to re-release Ghost Story on September 7, 2004
just in time for Halloween. Most likely this re-release won't have any extras, although we can always hope. I have always enjoyed this film and although the story line does'nt quite gel with the book's, who cares. This movie is genuinely creepy.
Anyway, all of us fans of this film can start the countdown. Til' then, enjoy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Special Effects, Imagery. Story Severely Lacking ..., April 26 2004
No matter what pre-cautionary steps a director takes remaking or
"re-imagining" a revered classic film such as Planet of the Apes
(1968), everyone is going to compare the original to "the new
improved" version. You must also take into account the times, and social issues that gaps the original and the remake. Planet
of the Apes (2001) seems to be making a anti-gun political statement. Whereas Planet of the Apes (1968) dealt with racial
issues among numerous others. Since the new Planet of the Apes
was produced pre-911, there was'nt that much happening enough
to make much of a story about. Heck, this new Planet of the Apes
could have had a anti-smoking message instead. All the classic
Apes films storylines were then, current events derivative. So,
for me Planet of the Apes (2001) did'nt have a whole lot to say.
Mark Wahlberg was badly miscast. Then again I can't think of
any current actors today that could match up to Heston's stature
as a spokesman for mankind.
Planet of the Apes (2001) was beautifully photographed, the
special effects were dazzling, and of course Rick Baker's
Apes makeup was terrific. All eye candy with little else going
for it.
No matter what "innovations" or "re-imagining" new Hollywood
comes up with on the "new and improved" Planet of the Apes series, I'll remain a loyal admirerer of the originals.
Who knows, maybe the next installment of the Apes series may
have a anti-obesity message centering on the Orangutans as the
lead Apes characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait For The Special Edition of This Great Movie ... ..., April 24 2004
I could not wait for this movie to come out on DVD initially.
Virtually no extras on this current release. Well... ... just
wait until the end of 2004 when James Cameron finally releases
The Titanic Special Edition. I do not know specifics of what
extra bonus material will materialize, but I am almost sure that
Mr. Cameron will make this Special Edition release of this gargantuan movie a very special event. Until then, enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Compelling True Ghost Stories ... ..., April 21 2004
Haunted Places, The National Directory is one of those books that once you get started reading is difficult to put down.
For example, do not read the section about Tennessee's Bell Witch alone late in the evening unless you don't have to be at work early the next day. These stories contained in this book
are genuinely creepy and will keep you awake late into the night. Better than coffee. This book is everything a good true
ghost story book should be. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Haunted Mansion For The Kid In All of Us, April 21 2004
The Haunted Mansion film is not as bad as some will lead you to believe. Actually The Haunted Mansion is a throwback to movies
like William Castle's original 13 Ghosts (1960) and Don Knotts'
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1965). The ghosts play it straight and dead serious and leaves the comedy to Eddie Murphy and family. There are also many scenes that reference Disney's theme
park ride. Such as the singing busts, the ballroom waltz complete with a ghostly organist, and the hitch hiking ghosts even get their cameos. The story is very simple. A nice family
is trapped overnight in The Haunted Mansion, trying to find a
way out. There is also a subplot that deals with reincarnation,
and a 122 year old murder mystery. A really fun movie. My favorite scene: The Gothic Mausoleum. Rick Baker has produced
the best rotting, skeletal walking corpses I have ever seen.
Seemingly straight out of a 1950s EC horror comic.
So if retro horror comedy is to your liking you will love
The Haunted Mansion movie.
