5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected voice, June 9 2003
This review is from: Only Love (Audio CD)
Anyone who knows Sumi Jo will be surprised at this album because she is not like an opera singer in this album. It is common that opera singers¡¯ cross-over albums sounds ridiculous because they do not give themselves up being the opera singer; they usually stick to their operatic way to sing. However, when one who has never heard Sumi Jo¡¯s other recordings listens to this cross-over album, he will not know that Sumi is an opera singer. It means that her interpretations are almost perfect. She knows how to sing cross-over songs and that the way to sing them is different from that of opera arias; but unfortunately some opera singers do not seem to know it. Maybe cross-over music is something that most opera singers want to try, but I have not seen one succeeded contentedly. Sumi¡¯s voice and her interpretations are almost perfect. All tracks are great, but particularly I recommend ¡°Unusual Way¡± and ¡°I still believe.¡± I remember Sumi Jo saying in an interview after finishing recording this album, that she finally made it. I agree with her that she eventually did a great job. I really pay a compliment on her impressive work. Very strongly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely delightful film, June 6 2003
This review is from: Secretary [Import] (DVD)
This film could have been third class perverted semi-porn movie. But the director Steven Shainber did great job in turning a bit perverted material-sadism and masochism-into absolutely funny and cute love story. Although the movie deals with somewhat irregular sexual issues, it is never erotic or disgusting. The reason, I suppose, is truthfulness and purity of the characters.
Maggie Gyllenhaal(Lee) did stunning work in playing a very pure, yet unconventional, female secretary. Lee looks somewhat dumb and weak to her desire, but at least she is uncontaminated by the outside world and true to her feelings. The way she tries to seduce James Spader is quite adorable.
James Spader also proved that he is a great actor. Mr. Gray (Spader) is slightly deviated from the normal person, but still he is greatly attractive man. How he heals the wounds of Lee and how he resists her seduction induces laughter from the audiences.
This film is never typical and never normal, yet it shows the true feelings of the human beings. This film depicts physical attraction, yet it show what real love is.
I absolutely recommend this film to everybody and I guarantee that anyone who sees this film will like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to keep the impression of the movie!, May 5 2003
Comparing with Moulin Rouse, Chicago is more powerful and fantastic. If you want to keep the impression you get when you see this movie, I strongly recommend this CD, Chicago.
Originally being a musical, this album Chicago is as vivid as a musical sound track. Thinking of disappointment that I feel when I listen to Moulin Rouse because of its weak vocals, Chicago is very impressive. Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere's singings are so admirable.
This album contains all the music you can hear in the movie, which makes you feel like watching it. Moreover, there are some other songs that you cannot hear when you see the movie: track # 17 performed by Queen Latifah and Lil¡¯kim and # 18 performed by Anastacia. These two tracks are somewhat inharmonious considering all the other songs based on jazz, but they¡¯re somewhat unique. For my part, my favorites are track #6 We Both Reached For the Gun and #14 Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger:I move on. These are both reminding of the movie Chicago and especially track # 14's words are really moving, with Jazz sound.
If you are someone who enjoys listening Jazz, this CD will be the best choice you can have. Not only are melodies great but also are their words so touching.
Great music!
¡°It is good, isn¡¯t it? Grand, isn¡¯t it? Swell, isn¡¯t it?¡±(from track #14)
