4.0 out of 5 stars Three Respectable War Films (all WW11), Aug. 27 2016

A good combination of movies- one in black and white the other two in colour...colour movies are good productions.
Beach Red in its day of release created a style of war movie where there was much interplay between the battles and personalities adding a dynamic rarely scene back then which tries to get the watcher immersed in the family life of the soldiers and the soldiers personalities - in attempt to humanize the characters from being hardened and callous fighters. It kind of works. Some gratuitous nudity in this movie for those who might be easily offended or want to keep from younger audiences seeing it.
Attack on The Iron Coast was excellent... high quality acting is integral to the plot, and I think it was a very well performed story.. The Story line is interesting and gives a decent glimpse into commando life and training.
Attack is wonderfully acted movie and superbly done black and white movie. It seems there is as much conflict amongst the US soldiers than there was with the Germans... gives a glimpse into what must have been frequent tensions between officers and troops. It makes you wonder how many botched missions resulting in significant casualties were caused by the soldiers' own commanding officers on both sides.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best to have been unknown!, Aug. 9 2016

Interesting plot- reminiscent of early 60's cold war espionage...I was caught up in the plot because it seemed so incredulous- and Liam with it- and my mind tried to bob and weave with the plots evolution, but as I watched more of the movie it really fell apart until right at the very end when everything started to click (despite its less than logical process)... even then it lacked credibility unless you subscribe to the idiocy of the capabilities of those protecting very powerful people. A movie where some aspects work.. not unfortunately the actors... Action packed though, so it had its redeeming points

5.0 out of 5 stars No disappointment here... just a great collection of tunes, Aug. 8 2016

Diverse and very enjoyable... each track takes you somewhere back in time through Palmers huge talent as a vocalist... I found the whole to be amazing value...disappointment. 29 Palms even though probably the least sophisticated is such a compelling vocal.. it sends a tingle down your spine- blues, jazz, pop, soul, Celtic.. he has such a wide ranging repertoire. In a word "fantastic"....

Strangely captivating.. John Wayne has a solid no nonsense tough guy approach to things- I think being a cop suits his acting style better than a cowboy... he seems to be more Clint Eastwood than John Wayne the gun fighter.... It is very 1970's even more so with the expected sound tracks of that era... It is not anywhere on par with the French Connection although a similar plot.. but it is entertaining.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Darkest Side of Bad Spy Movies, Aug. 3 2016

One of the strangest and daftest movies I have watched with unrelenting and unnecessary violence... the style of violence works for films like Pulp Fiction- not for this comic book story gone wild... it mocks the James Bond genre movies and overall borders on being distasteful.... and I am shocked that Michael Caine, Samuel L Jackson, and Colin Firth would grace this movie with their presence and lower their acting value .. I am bewildered that some folks gave it an above average rating... in the range of love it or hate it; it is definitely not for me... but I suspect there is a cult following for this type of theatrics.

Definitely not PC- 1972 vintage-, but fascinating. Supposed to be a comedy and has the finger prints of Fellini all over it. Quite a bit of nudity (mainly the lead actress) just a caution for those who are adverse to this.... It offers intriguing insight into the 60's middle class lifestyles more than the 70's... pop star living...it was more of a parody than a comedy though. A stylized romp....at best, and worst!

An incredible movie- very compelling on all fronts... acting is outstanding... war in all its sordidness... it is riveting- reveals the complex relationship and tension in Afghanistan. It could so easily be a corny account, but it managed to find a balance of the human, psychological, social and political dynamics... tough subject and hard to portray honestly and properly.

Simply marvelous... cute moral story... animation is superb; in fact, the best animation in years. Not too soppy either! A bit unnecessarily over the top in the PC department, but that is the age we live in.

Corny, but brilliant- it was a surprise hit; I was highly sceptical, however I could not resist watching it. You get the many sides of Melisa McCarthy who really stole the show despite superb contributions from Jason Statham and Miranda Heart - Smartly acted and hilarious from beginning to end... it is amazing how Melisa can be so crude and crass but still make it all quite acceptable, and the skits "uproaringly" funny- In talking to friends, we all agree it would be enjoyable on a second and even a third watch...
