4.0 out of 5 stars Good to hear new music from David...., Jan. 2 2003
Been a fan of David's since his middle 80's standout
collection (David & David). Like several of my
other favorites in this broad stylist songwriting genre,
John Prine, Randy Newman, Darden Smith, to name just
a few, this guy consistently delivers great music, its hard
to believe its been 9 years since his last collection and even
harder that radio ignors his stuff? A WELCOME return!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual, Smooth & Mature solo effort...., Dec 3 2002
This review is from: Wild Seed (Audio CD)
This guy continues to amaze and surprise, especially
with this mid 90's collection. Harket paints his
melancholy canvas with soul searching, at times
mellow but always inpired writing and arranging.
This one took me many repeated listenings to pull
out individual standouts, not a bad thing, I will
be listening to this one for years to come. I like this cd as a whole,
he's a mesmerising vocalist and continues to mature
his craft. Listening to the new A-ha Cds I can hear
so much of this new direction Harket aims for here on "Wild Seed". I hope he makes more solo
releases in the future. My favorite cuts "Brodsky Tune",
"Spanish Steps", the beautiful prayer,"Lay me down tonight",
"Ready to go home", "A kind of Christmas Card", "Tell
me what you see", "Los Angles". This is a must have for
any A-ha fans, pricey and not so easy to find but well
worth the discovery. Harket is one of the best vocalist
to come out of the last several decades. Nothing phoney
about this guy, he IS a SINGER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth seeking out...., Nov. 29 2002
This DVD A-ha live at Vallhall (HOMECOMING) wasn't
the easiest to find. I found a USA non-PAL format
finally and this disk is loaded with extra's.
Great live concert of the 2000 "Minor Earth Major Sky"
tour peformed in their native Norway Spring 2001.
Great sounding, many older favorites mixed with their new
songs and sound. Very enjoyable group, adult songs played
with their usual class and no frills adds up to a better than
average pop concert. Nice lighting not overdone. What I
think makes this whole DVD worth the price is the 4 videos
from "Minor Earth Major Sky", especially enjoyed the "Velvet"
clip, disturbing in a macabre way but its nice to see A-ha not
take itself so seriously, thats what I like most about getting
to know the years I'd missed when the USA decided to pull the
plug on these talented outfit after their late 1980's 2nd collection. Great to have them back performing. Also, live interviews mixed with what A-ha members (side solo projects)
have been doing from (1994'-2000)when they went their own ways.
They are making their best music now and look forward to them
changeing their minds and come back to the states for some shows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem......., Nov. 22 2002
This review is from: Travelogue (Audio CD)
This is a great "ADULT" listening experience. SO
MANY GREAT selections of Joni songs from over
the years. The past few reviews say it all. I
had read what the Rolling Stone Magazine said,
"Bizzare", thats a typical response from them.
Look what graces their covers these days. Its
certainly not about musical excellence anymore.
So far on this collection "Amelia" floors me
but there are many, many gems on here. Joni
took her time with this set and has slowed things
down and draws the words out and this musical
setting is superb for her mesmerizing vocal delivery.
Joni, don't forget you promised a Christmas collection!
Excellent packaging all around, love the enhanced bonus
multi-media material on disk one you can play on the computer. Just check out her paintings!
This is much more than I'd hoped Joni would deliver,a classy and inspired musical journey, Joni Mitchell still has it, Wally
would be proud!

5.0 out of 5 stars another great voice out there....., Oct. 29 2002
What a voice, arrangement and production on this
her first single from her lastest work, HOMETOWN.
I'm not sure where this song is going but for
the lucky ones who seek out great music, this
is a real treat. I'm hoping she gets out and tours
and music lovers round the world will find this
great music a nice change of pace. HOMETOWN over all
is great collection of tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great comeback collection...., Oct. 23 2002
This review is from: Minor Earth Major Sky (Audio CD)
Although not perfect this collection is a
big comeback for a group that started out
making some really interesting music(middle 80's) and faded out
of the picture during the 90's. They are all gifted and I new with the first collection way back in the middle 80's these harmonies had allot going, didn't
like the way "Take on me" stuck out of that collection, the
whole cd was excellent and not a late teen early 20's act cooked up by some big business hot shot, these guys are for real. They've come back
for this 2000 collection and there most recent "LIFELINES"(2002)
Both of these are very good recordings full of potential radio cuts. I'm more partial to this
one but "Lifelines" is growning on me, love
the Beatles type stuff on several cuts. Morten has the most
beautiful vocal chops in the business, the most pure voice, so much reminds me of the best of what the Moody Blues did,
even Duran Duran, Roy Orbison, Chris Issak would even take
notice. A-ha continues
to grow and mature and this collection especially
shines. My favorites on this, Velvet, Minor earth major sky,
the sun never shone that day, I wish I cared, to name a few.
The best comeback of the year that no one in the music business
cared to let America in on?
Pick up Lifelines the new collection as well, same approach, you
won't get these songs out of your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two for two....., Oct. 23 2002
This review is from: Lifelines (Audio CD)
without going into a major review...
this is A-ha's 2nd of two collections
over the past two years and just wanted
to say these guys aren't "boys" any more and
they are making great adult music that
should be heard on radio, but here in the states,
(with the shape of radio in America)
their music would only embarrass most of what
gets played on radio. Sad state. Most male singers can't even sing? They try to
get buy slurring bunched up sentences on a rap beat but they
buy into here in the states, it nice to listen to Aha. Morten is an amazing singer, can't find a better
vocalist, wow what a voice, just listen to him sing "TIME AND AGAIN", "DRAGONFLY", The petshop boys retro style on "DID ANYONE APPROACH YOU?", thats a great radio song people? Love the way they pay homage to the Beatles
style we all love, very talented musicians. These two collections
have opened up a whole new door for them.
Lets hope third times a charm....

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Master of Chills......., Oct. 20 2002
Another excellent, in a long line of unusal, engrossing
horror pieces with a great setting (Warsaw) and top notch writing. This story
has to be read. It took a long time for me to find a writer
like Masterton that has such a long line of masterpieces.
Very few writers I could mention have been able to
continue to put out the goods like Graham. Just read the
first chapter of this one and see if it doesn't give you
a good scare. This guy is one of a kind and I believe will
finally get his recognition as a great writer. Scary and
gruesome at times WOW.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cruise missile hits it target....., Oct. 14 2002
This review is from: Art of Being a Girl (Audio CD)
For those of us left who seek out unusual music
this new Cruise missile hits it target, for the
most part. I gave this one 4 stars as there are
so many off the wall pieces included here, but they
all blend so well with the beautiful chill feel
attitude, she hasn't sounded this good on vocals
and the chatting goings on inbetween songs helps
keep this from sameness at times. I've put this one
in on random and it really sounds great. I to was
smiling when I heard the last track blending into
her classic "Fallin" newly touched up, shes one
of kind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunted vocalist riding through the land time has forgot..., Sept. 14 2002
This review is from: Blacklisted (Audio CD)
Kinda of fell into this one and I'm glad I did. There
are so many great vocalist out there that never get
an audience. Neko Case has a voice that is at once
amazing and familar with its retro touches here and
there. Its exciting the way country-alt-american music
is blending into our country's music scene and showing
all the sickening market "pop hit wonders" what true singing can
be all about. I agree there is room in this great country
for all kinds of styles but please BE ABLE TO SING!
This lady knows how to hold her own and then some. This is
dreamy stuff and each time I listen to it I like it more. Takes
you back to a simpler time and a touch of David Lynch don't hurt.
Shes got a future in the music business and hopefully time
to grow into her style. "Blacklisted", "Look for me (I'll be around)", "Outro
with Bees", "Runnin' out of fools", "Things that scare me"
just a few favorites but I like em' all!
