I thought it would be more courtroom and legal machinations. Instead, there were pseudo romances, religion, and formulaic bad guys in a rural setting. This book should be under the heading or romance novels.

It is beyond amazing the the series never grew stale. It remains as interesting after 17 seasons as it did when it first aired. The writing and acting are superb. I really like John Barnaby's wife. Joyce was nice but she lacked the free spirit of Sarah. And, I love John's dog. He really makes the show.

This series is amazing, so far. Usually, I can figure out the villain about halfway through an episode but as yet, I haven't been able to do that with Midsomer Murders. I miss Gavin Troy because, although he was a "plodder", he added humanity and realism to the show. Cully Barnaby is, IMO, somewhat annoying. I have no idea why she appears so often but she adds nothing. I'd prefer to see more of Joyce - she's the perfect foil for Tom.

5.0 out of 5 stars I realize that it's five years later and the actor needed to be replaced but to replace one who speaks English like an American, Oct. 14 2015

The story lines are improving and plots are thickening. One huge glaring misstep - Gordon, the son, was American in the first season and suddenly, in the second season, he's speaking with a full-on British accent. I realize that it's five years later and the actor needed to be replaced but to replace one who speaks English like an American with one who speaks like a native Briton is ridiculous.

5.0 out of 5 stars The story lines are good and, for the most part, Oct. 14 2015

The story lines are good and, for the most part, the acting is good. There are a couple of oddities which don't add up, however. Agnes and George are siblings and yet their accents are completely different - as though they came from completely different parts of England. Even their father spoke differently then either of them. As for the character of Selfridge - why was it necessary to have Jeremy Piven overact? His style of speech is completely unnatural. The sets and the supporting characters are certainly terrific, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Hilarious., Sept. 27 2015

I don't know how the writers do it but they manage to keep the show fresh and hilarious. There are so many times that I know what a character is going to say because he or she has said it or something similar many times before but it's still hilarious. The actors have such great chemistry and that makes for a truly funny comedy. I'm happy to see Bernadette and Amy getting more lines. To be honest, if Penny were to disappear, I wouldn't miss her - for me, she's always been one-dimensional and boring. Bernadette and Amy, on the other hand, crack me up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Series but not Enough of it., Sept. 13 2015

This is one of my favourite series and, sadly, there were only 3 episodes. To be honest, if I had known that, I would not have bought it because three episodes is simply not enough of this amazing program. The acting and writing are superb and three episodes are simply not enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ran Out of Steam, Sept. 11 2015
I cracked up laughing when I watched the first one. It was hilarious from beginning to end. The second one, unfortunately, has nothing on the first. There were far too many musical-introspective interludes. It was almost as though the writers had nothing and needed to fill space. Richard Gere added nothing to the film, either. There was too little Dev Patel in this second film. The humour was grossly missing and there were far too many mini-stories within the overall story. Even the inimitable Maggie Smith and Judi Dench couldn't save this one.

The story and the acting were, as expected, excellent. I could have done with much less Robbie and Laura and their mushiness but otherwise, the plots were superb. I was disappointed that there are only three episodes in the series. I want more...much more of this series. I don't know if the series has ended or if there is a series 8 in the works. I do hope there will be a series 8...and more.
