5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money, Sept. 19 2006
This review is from: A Lazarus Taxon (Dvd) (Audio CD)
Fellow Tortoise fan's rejoice! A Lazarus Taxon has two c.d's of un-released tracks, one c.d of remixes, and one c.d with music video's and live footage. Many, if not all of the song's were done in Tortoises early days, (before Jeff Parker joined) and if I may say so myself I actually believe that these song's are more creative than their later releases, such as 'Standards' or 'It's all around you'. The live footage, (espescially at Lee's Palace) is exceptional in the quality of sound, and watching it give's you new insight on how talented each individual really is. I watched the dvd first, my favourites being 'Gamera' (the two drummers drumming silmutaneously give's you an entirely new perspective when comparing it to the recorded version), 'Vaus'(there's just something about a djembe that make's the song that much better than the recorded version) and 'Djed' (the marimba/xylophone combination takes you to a new dimension.) If you are a fan of this band but are growing weary of their other stuff, then I highly recommend this box set, as you will not be disapointed.

There is no singular meaning for this movie. "To some its a work of art, to others it's a piece of s$#@," was what I believe Godfrey Reggio stated during his interview for this movie. Watch this movie if you want to expand your mind and get a different concept on life as a whole. Watch this movie if you decide to go get stoned and just want a visual thriller. Don't go for crappy "action-packed" violent movies that don't entail any sort of useful value in your already meaningless life. Try and learn a thing or two, and watch this movie. You won't be disapointed. (If you are disapointed, your a moron and didn't deserve to see this work of unique art in the first place.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Bill Bryson at his best!, Dec 28 2005
A short history of nearly everything. What else can really be said about this book? Well written and thoughtful, this book can be read by anyone and appreciated by anyone. I have always loved Bryson's dark yet sarcastic sense of humour, and this book has no shortage of it. Although the actual text of this book covers a wide variety of subjects and interesting facts that you have probablly never hear anywhere else, I would deem this a bathroom book, mainly because the subjects aren't all that grabbing. If it weren't for Bryson's unique style of writing that I have come to love over the years, I would have to say that I wouldn't have picked this book up of the shelves. They now have 'A Short history of nearly everything' with pictures and a price tag almost triple the cost of the regular book, but if you find it hard to read purely text without any pictures, I'd say go out and get it, because its always nice to have a little bit of extra knoweledge, (even if most of it is irrelevant) in your brain.
