Initially, i enjoyed the format of the book. Surprisingly, it was not so much a cookbook, but an autobiography. The writer’s story was somewhat interesting and having read it, I’m not surprised that Anthony Bourdain was involved as publisher as they share a ‘gritty’ beginning. I had been looking for more of a ‘Korean cookbook’. This is an autobiographical cookbook with some Korean recipes, some North American, most comfort food in nature. For the most part, it was an interesting read.
I adore roy choi. His life, his food, his honesty...a fantastic cookbook to boot! Everything I have made has been deelish, and while some of the ingredients may seem daunting in volume, it all works brilliantly. The best thing is, this is a guide to push you into riffing on the recipe as roy dares you to step out and step up! Do it! Buy it now.
