Bulky & no carrying case, but this thing makes car camping so much more tolerable.
December 29, 2018
Keep in mind, the review here is based off of one 3 day trip and no more than 4 uses in optimal weather.
As mentioned, this thing is very bulky & thus cumbersome. But if you're car camping and want coffee that isn't a terrible granulated mess that doesn't take an hour to make AND taste like sewage- this is an easy trade off.
You really don't need to be a neuroscientist to operate this thing. There are few parts and once on your stove, the heat activates it and it doesn't take long before you're drinking your coffee. Because there's not much to the thing, clean up doesn't take long either.
Because I refused to buy the cheap but expensive case you're "forced" to buy, I packed it in the actual box- which made it even bulkier. BUT, the glass is protected and with 300 things to think about for even a simple weekend trip- that peace of mind is worth the space sacrificed.
Cons: expensive, bulky, poor housing options mean the device is more likely to get damaged
Pros: Reliable non-terrible coffee, easy & fast to make, easy & fast to clean up
At the the end of the weekend, even my skeptic friend was gratified that I'd spent so much money and taken up valuable car space in order to drink decent coffee. Despite the cons, I'd not hesitate to buy this thing again- though it'll be interesting to see how it holds up over time.
