Funny but Heart Wrenching too
August 28, 2013
This movie is not suitable for family viewing with either young chilren or really senior members of your family. How does one explain sperm banks to the young or old? Once ones gets past the explanation of how all these children exist, the time to ponder adoption issues begins in earnest. Who has privacy and what for? Does the child have some right to his or her biological past? What about health issues that could be passed on, such as diabetes or cancer? What rights do the parents have regarding secrecy of past actions that profoundly affect the very life of the person created?
Another issue to ponder is the business of parenting. What is good parenting? Is it a private job, or is it really true that a child needs a whole village to parent her or him?
This movie would make a humourous start to a workshop on adoption and/or parenting. As a thought raiser, the rilm is excellent. However the film does not glow with memorable acting; no one person excells. The film as a piece of art is average, not remarkable. This might serve the purpose of the film. The acting etc do not detract from the isses.
