Easy to use but end result not as good as gut casings

Am new to sausage making. I find these casings are very easy to use. They go on stuffer tube with little effort, have no need for pre-soaking and have never broken or torn on me. They are also a single piece, not short sections like a gut casing so you can stuff more quickly. They took a smoke just like gut casings and the finished product looks great. However, if you plan on drying the sausages they tend to harden a bit and also tend to split when cooking. Maybe I over filled them. Found they were easy to peel off before cooking if that is desired. Overall I prefer gut casings as they produce a better finished product and are cheaper but I am finding it hard to locate 20mm+ size except in these collagen type casings. For a first timer, these are the way to go.
