Great Headphones, but I don't get the hype.
November 14, 2018
I'm no audiophile, and these were probably the most expensive headphones I've purchased at $200 Canadian. But I really don't get the huge hype about these though... I guess there is still an argument for good value even at $200. I don't think the sound quality is the best, as it favors more towards exaggerated (but not so overwhelming like some other headphones) bass sounds, a bit too "bassy" which can also slightly distort music. Not the crispiest of sounds. They are pretty good for music, but I think they fair better for gaming and home theater etc. as the sound is a bit more "FX" oriented, rather than, crisp and clear. (Hope that made sense)
Have them for three years now, and I use them about 3 to 5 times a month on average, and the built quality has held up pretty well. There are some thin plastics though at 'volatile' joints of the headphone, so I am nervous, one day a plastic may crack etc. But until then, the quality is holding up quite well! The thin leatherette material for the ear muffs has also fared well against common use and wear and tear; they are still all intact and not flaking or cracking etc.
One of the main complaints I have with these headphones is comfort, they may sit well and fit snugly on your head, but they do tend to be a bit on the heavy side, and more importantly since they are "closed" over the ear models, they can get really hot and sweaty and uncomfortable during long sessions of use. (Like watching a movie or gaming over an hour) I find myself removing them every 20 minutes to half hour to make my ears "breath" and cool down.
Pros: Built Quality, if you treat them well and not abuse them, they should last you two decades. More catered for gaming rather than music (This could be a Pro or a Con depending on what you're looking for)
Overall good quality sound, and good headphones to have around your TV/PC to watch a movie or play a game without distracting others in the house.
Cons: A bit bulky and heavy, not recommend for carrying around everywhere (for travel or commute)
Discomfort during longer sessions of wear... Can really put lots of pressure on your ears, you may find yourself removing them often and taking breaks.
