I love this!...
April 18, 2019
After a couple of trips with a different brand (Anfo) that appeared to be a quality charger (built-in cord management, at least) I started noticing that there was a pretty unhealthy electrical arc when I plugged it in, so I went back and checked the reviews on it. They had been pretty positive when I first bought the unit, but now that it was out for a while the overall rating had changed and people no longer liked the unit as much.
(maybe it's just me, but it almost appears like most of the negative reviews on electronics, optics, tools and other items these days are recent (2018-2019), as opposed to earlier ones being mostly positive. I'm hoping that this is not an indication of manufacturers 'cheapening' their products by having them produced offshore. But I digress, sorry...)
So anyway, I found this one and decided to give it a try. First thing I noticed: the weight. It is heavier than the Anfo, and feels more solid in the hand. It also has a built-in noise/RF filter and doesn't arc anything like the other one. Most importantly, though, is the 2.5 amp rating...if you read the reviews, you will see that the Raspberry Pi requires a fair bit of power under some circumstances, and many of the cheaper Micro USB power supplies just can't reliably output enough current to keep it from crashing. This one does. And best of all, it's actually *cheaper* than than the Anfo (how often do you get better quality for a cheaper price these days?).
And for those who aren't technically savvy, don't worry about this charger being listed as a "Raspberry Pi power supply." It's not: it's a MICRO USB power supply that just happens to work very well and meet the power requirements of the Raspberry Pi. I'm putting in on my Wish List (what a handy thing that has turned out to be!) as an 'add-on' item for a future order, so I can make the 35 dollar threshold and get free shipping. My Kindle, my tablet and my cell phone all use a Micro USB port for charging, so for this price I'm going to get another one (or two)...
