My Agonizing Experiment
November 28, 2018
I'm not a gamer, but was rebuilding my PC looking for speed improvements. Thought possibly a new video card to replace the embedded one in my motherboard might be worth a try. This card fitted in easily. But the software installation wasn't a pleasure. This is a low end "gaming" card and so the opening screen, once I got it started, was a "heavy metal" advertisement for more gaming products. It had a long list of software that was going to be installed but no indication of what each would do. In addition it was going to try and install Chrome, Google Play and a subscription to Norton Anti-Virus. This I didn't appreciate and so deleted all those choices.
When the install started it ran for maybe 20 minutes and I finally stopped it. Despite that, the card appeared to work but was no faster than my motherboard video. So I have removed it and will now work at removing the associated drivers. Lesson learned.
Update - I stupidly didn't learn my lesson and tried again. It continued to be a "gamers only" experience with very poor results. Even the Internet interface, as opposed to the DVD, was nonsense. I'll leave this at 2 stars.
