Awesome real-time strategy game! Game has a great story but felt very short in comparison to the original Halo Wars. The AI is generally fair however I did run into a couple of levels where it seemed brutally difficult, and even found myself in a stalemate for over an hour during a campaign mission. Outside of these few challenging moments, I found the difficulty somewhat lacking (though I also have over 20 years experience playing strategy games). The gameplay mechanics are similar to the original Halo Wars, however the interface and menus take some getting used to if you try to play immediately after the first game.
The season pass feels like a complete rip-off as it only provides additional multiplayer characters and Operation Spearbreaker, but does not include "Awakening the Nightmare" story DLC. It does provide a character selection is nice for multiplayer and adds a wider variety of tactics to use exclusively in multiplayer. If you are specifically interested in campaign/story, I would suggest buying standard edition as Spearbreaker can be purchased separately for $8 CAD and Awakening the Nightmare can be purchased for $25 CAD (currently the difference in price between standard and ultimate edition).
Halo wars 2 is a great continuation and add on to the lore built by Halo Wars. Following Captain James Cutter and the spirit of fire we are brough to the ark that we all know and love from halo 3.
Halo wars 2 adds new units and changes some of the control elements of the previous installation in the series. Initially it was hard to get ust to but now that I have several hours plugged into the game I can say that It offers its own unique elements and its enjoyable.
The story is compelling but the downfall is that it leave it open ended, essentially requiring the season pass for the future installments. Don't really agree with this portion of the marketing, however the final mission in the campaign is one hell of a mission
Overall I am a huge halo fan so I loved the series. If you like Real Time Strategy games then you will love this one on the console. Built from the ground up for the xbox and it shows.
Overall 9/10 Soundtrack 10/10 Graphics 8/10 (made some of the units look kinda of a cartoony) Gameplay 10/10
A rare and unique experience on consoles. The campaign was a bit on the short side but every mission was enjoyable with lots of variety. The skulls, optional objectives and bonus objectives will have you striving to perfect each level. Unfortunately the game ended on a cliffhanger but at least it was an amazing last cutscene, actually all the cutscenes in this game are something to marvel at... simply eye popping. I believe that the game was data mined at one point which revealed plans for a Beserker faction campaign DLC that will hopefully expand a bit on the covenant side of the story to wrap things up a bit more neatly in a few months.
The game was pretty buggy during Early Access but they have smoothed out many of the issues and with this being Halo (Xboxs' golden goose) it will receive support for years to come. I haven't played a ton of multiplayer yet but of what I have played has been a rush.
If you even moderately enjoy Halo, RTS games or just unique experiences than this game is for you.
Doesnt get much better. Two games for the price of one and its a really well developed rts game. Story line is top notch with game play that is addictively good. Well worth buying. I wish i had bought this sooner.
