Quick delivery, but not as bright as a 100 watt incandescent bulb
December 9, 2018
The product was delivered quickly, which is always nice. Amazon usually does very well on logistics. And, the product is well made, and packed securely. And at $4.36 Canadian per bulb, one cannot complain about the cost. The value is there.
My disappointment stems from the fact that the bulb is advertised as "AmazonBasics 100 Watt Equivalent". Well, it just isn't. In the fine print, you'll discover that they are listed as 1400 lumens; but the US dept. of energy describes a 100 watt incandescent bulb as outputting 1600 lumens, more than 14% more. These bulbs are about as bright as an 88 watt incandescent.
The bulb size is listed as A21. They will fit incandescent bulb sockets just fine; but they are a physically larger bulb, about 1/4 inch wider and about a half inch taller. Some fixtures won't accept the size difference. If you need a true A19 sized bulb for your fixture, these won't fit.
Finally, it's worth noting that 100 watt incandescent bulbs are around 2800 to 3000 Kelvin color temperature, which is described as a warm white. I deliberately chose 5,000 Kelvin (daylight) bulbs, and I think it was a mistake. For indoor use, I think 3,000K looks better; 5,000K looks pretty harsh. I think 5,000K is a great choice for a workshop.
In closing... I'm not terribly disappointed. I put three of them in a fixture, and they certainly lit up the room. I just wish Amazon was a little more up-front with the labeling. 88 watts is not 100 watts, and they shouldn't state that it is.
