Great CD from a great song writer and story teller. I've been listening to Rodney Crowell since I first heard him in the late 70's and he has never failed to please. If anything, his songwriting has only become stronger. The Houston Kid is back with another solid effort.
He has always been a fine singer and songwriter. There are no stinkers in his CD output but this release, with its warmth, its humour; and its wisdom ranks with the very best he's ever done. I loved it.
Rodney Crowell proves once again why he is one of the greatest singer songwriters there is. This album is full of great music and even better lyrics. I have listened to him now for over 30 years and he never disappoints.
A gorgeous treatise from venerable Rodney. Aging, loving and memory are the themes. Poignant but not too depressing. His voice is strong and confident. This is an artist in total control and seeing his art with wisdom and confidence. The guest musicians make for a stellar listen. (My favourite is Tommy Emmanuel's guitar on the first cut. Bloody masterful.) Rodney keeps getting better. Like, well, you add your own metaphor here.
