Very nice reader, and some lessons learned
November 17, 2017
I've been a Kindle user from the first model, and just moved from the Voyage to the Oasis. I like it a lot. The larger page (achieved through smaller margins) is quite nice, and the lighting is indeed better. I also very much like the significant increase in storage: 8GB instead of the Voyage's 4GB, with the option to get 35GB.
A few lessons learned: I got the fabric cover, and the magnetic attachment to the reader is not nearly so secure as the snap-on cover I had for the Voyage. However, although the cover slipped off a lot when I first got it, I notice that it doesn't slip off any more, so I think I've unconsciously adapted to it. But initially that was a bit of surprise, but now I'm fine with it.
Loading the case with the content (and I have well over 800 books and samples) doesn't work so well from the browser window "Manage Your Content and Devices." I did try that route, but it was not at all satisfactory. Here's what worked best: On the Oasis, change the display from "grid" (book covers) to "list" (titles listed: much easier to read and use).
Then if you touch "All", you'll see all your titles, both in the cloud and downloaded (and those downloaded have a check next to them). If you touch "Downloaded" you initially won't see any titles (because none have been downloaded). So touch "All" and then go through the list of titles and touch each one, which will queue the title for download. Touching each title to request the download sounded like more trouble than it was, and of course it takes a while to download them all, but at the end each title will be on your device and have a check next to the title.
