Melodrama Is Every Silver Lining In The Storm!
July 20, 2017
This review is of Of Lordes sophomore Cd Melodrama. Lorde returns with a very strong set of songs, that work very well together. Green Light the opening track feels like an anthem for angst with the trials of a breakup. Green Light is great in evoking the pain many people feel in the aftermath of an old relationship. It's very catchy and the sonic lendings are original and unique, without trying to hard. HomeMade Dynamite is where the carefree party begins. A fun party song which once again is catchy in a good original way, artistic pop. There are no over produced pop songs, we are far away from say Justin Bieber, VERY far away. For me personally, Liability is my favorite track. It's a piano ballad where Lorde bares her soul ,in lyrics that sound like poetry. Liability is a tune that universally manages to relate to the feelings of being left out. She wastes no time being honest and this song is as a result stark and timeless. Writer In The Dark is also a great song never sacrificing her honesty or art. Lines like "I am my mother's child, I'll love you till my breathing stops/ I'll love you till you call the cops on me". Once again, the way she arranges the music to such lyrics makes for beautiful sonic poetry. Writer In The Dark, is a more relaxed sound, but never gets anywhere near boring. The album closer "Perfect Places" is another melodramatic catchy baroque pop song. Very inspiring and although the topic (growing pains) is sad, it makes you feel great listening to. "What the f--- are perfect places anyways?". They don't exist, all the illusions of youth and society Lorde is very smart to not be buying in too. These are wisely crafted songs, and outstanding lyrics. This album is to be treasured for many years to come, nothing on here sounds dated. I hope this album is as enjoyable and relatable for you. Melodrama only leaves me wanting even more Lorde.
