I used this flaring tool for the first time this past week. It is much nicer to use than the traditional style flaring tool. Much easier on my hands and makes absolutely perfect bubble and double flares. If you are an older mechanic and starting to get arthritis in your hands, this is the tool to use. There really needs to be a 1/4" version so I can gift my old flaring tool.
This flaring tool is easy to use and makes nice consistent double flares every time. If you've been struggling with the old split bar type, it's probably not you - your flaring tool probably sucks! I've had good results with those in the past (though a bit finicky to get good results), but my latest attempts with three different tools either just pushed the line out of the clamp no matter how tight I made it, or mangled to outside of the tube and made inconsistent non-concentric flares. This tool made a nice flare on the first attempt. It does seem to leave a slight burr at the outer edge on the second operation, but that may be just down to my edge prep. The only real complaint I have is that they don't make it in other sizes.
I once watched my friend, a mechanic who was trained by Rolls Royce in the UK, struggle to make a flare with the traditional junk tool which is made by countless companies in every price range and is to be seen absolutely everywhere. This Titan inline flaring tool is specialized for a single diameter of tubing so is only usable for standard brake lines but it makes perfect flares every time. It's fast and it's easy. What's not to love? Yes, it's a bit expensive compared to the price of garbage but then what is your time worth and what is your safety worth?
Takes all the guesswork out of making flares. Just crank it down until it bottoms out, flip the die and repeat. Feels very well put together of quality materials. Wish I'd bought this first rather than the OEM tool.
The tool does not come with the greatest appearance or size but the important part is that it works just fine a double flairing SS which all the other common style would not. So yes impressed in the end.
