I quite enjoyed reading this book of love and loss

This is the story of how Joanna Langley discovered the secrets of her father, Hugo Langley after he passed away in 1973. Hugo has been a British Airman in the second war, who in December of 1944, bailed out over Italy and with some important help from a village girl, hid himself from the Germans until he recovered from his wounds.
This tale is romantic, suspenseful and well written. I am not a fan of romance novels, but this is so much more than that.
When Joanna goes through her father's papers after his death, she learns that her father had tried to reconnect with a woman. Sofia Bartoli, he met in Tuscany during the war. Hugo made reference to hiding "our beautiful boy". And so begins, Joanna's quest to find out if she has a brother in Italy. Now the author takes us through beautiful countryside and has Joanna experience the luscious food of that region expecially where she boards during her adventure. Paola, the woman who rents her a little cottage, teaches her the art of Tuscan cuisine and we get to savor it. Many times I was smacking my lips at the descripiton of that food.
I found this book delightful and satisfying in many ways and recommend the reading of it to anyone who likes a good story.
