A beautiful movie with a fantastic soundtrack. There's a reason these songs are at the top of the charts! The songs are very catchy (trust me; some of them are still regularly in my head a month after seeing the movie) and you can't help but (try to) sing along.
Some reviewers are bashing this CD, having not seen the film itself -- I have this question for you: why would you buy a CD for a musical if you haven't seen the movie and don't know whether you will like the music? Yes, the songs are more emotional and enthralling in the context of the film. I argue that any musical soundtrack follows this rule. (I have been bored to death when my sister has tried to show me songs from Les Mis, as I haven't seen the film/play, and my partner couldn't get as invested as I am in Wicked's "Defying Gravity" without seeing the live performance first.) So, naysayers, do yourselves a favour and SEE THE MOVIE. It's wonderful, emotionally engaging, and captivating. Then, if you like it, by the CD. If you don't like the movie, don't buy the soundtrack. Simple.
My only qualm with the audio is that the volume is not consistent throughout. In the first song of the album there are noticeable dips in volume when Hugh Jackman speaks. This only happens in one song, though.
