Tons of old school fun; modern and retro modes
July 11, 2018
Seriously fun! The original Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap was one of the very first games I bought for my Sega Master System, and it was such a trip to be able to play it again on the Switch.
The game has two modes--the updated, modern graphics and music, and the retro graphics and music. You can switch back and forth between the two with the touch of a button. The other major change is the ability to play as Wonder Girl. This is just a cosmetic change and makes no difference in your play-through.
The Dragon's Trap is a very old school platform/action rpg. You travel through a series of different lands defeating boss and earning different transformation powers. There is a lot of backtracking as there are certain areas you can get into only when in one form or another. Weapons, armour, and spells can be purchase in shops hidden in the different levels.
This is a great trip down memory lane for older games, and a fun new experience for new gamers. Old games were hard and didn't hold your hand, and The Dragon's Trap is so true to this!
