Excellent CPU at an amazing value, and excellent gaming all around.
Having worked with a 1700X before (i still have the 1700X) i expected a few glitches setting up RAM, but got no glitches at all, in fact the B350 (my Asrock Pro4m came with newest bios update) recognized the 3200mhz 32GB Gskill RipjawsV (intel kit) without a hitch.
Increasing voltage on the RAM kit to 1.45V and reducing timings to CL13 netted an 15-16% improvement in Ray-trace & Video (4K) rendering (if ur lucky enough that ur RAM kit will let u go that far, but CL14 should be doable on most decent kits), another 3-5% performance gain is possible from the B450 series motherboards (if u can get it cheap).
Overclocking the cpu was much easier than the 1000series (MUCH, much easier).
Increased voltage and bumped up frequency until it hit 4.25Ghz @ 1.38v for 24/7 operation at 67-70C max load with a 240mm AIO. (CPU is capable of 4.35Ghz but at over 1.5V, so thats ok for testing but not for 24/7 operation).
System has now run a over a month with no crashes or RAM errors or any type of errors.
@ 4.25Ghz Ray-tracing Rendering improved another 8-10% for a total gain of 24-26% over stock, 4K video render chopped 10min off the total render time (completely linear improvement with OC), at this speed (4.25) it was even able to beat the previous ryzen7 1700 (base 8 core) by a couple of seconds but at much lover price, amazing.
With a gtx 1070oc FarCry5 was avg at 112fps, Tomb Raider was in the 132-137fps range, Doom was packing serious frame rates at any quality 160-200fps, Assassin's Creed:Origins & Witcher-3 were silk frame-rates at all settings. Every game runs butter smooth at any setting.
This build chopped off around $350 from a equivalent intel budget system build, truly excellent.
For the price of one high performance comp build ($3500+-) u can have 3 mid-range brand new systems, regardless if u want a new system every 2-years or just save ur money over next 5-6y for other things.
AMD is back in a big way, and this new revision is around 15% better than the last one out of the box.
At $245 it's impossible to find anything that can match this CPU in overall performance, $ for $ this might just be the best value/perf. CPU on the market right now.
