This is my second EVGA RTX 2070 Black, and thankfully this one works exactly as intended. Kudos to Amazon in their extremely quick response getting a replacement card out to me and paying for shipping both ways!
The first card I received had a strange blob of solder bridging two of the center DVI port pins, preventing me from using the dual-link capability required to run 144 Hz on my monitor. It did work perfectly at 60 Hz, and probably would have worked fine over a different type of cable, but I specifically bought this card because of it's DVI port, since I didn't want to spend more money on a monitor right now.
Now that I actually have a non-defective RTX 2070, I'm able to easily run all of my games at ultra settings and achieve over 100 FPS on all of them at 1080p. Eventually I do want to upgrade to a 1440p monitor, and I'm sure this card will still be able to achieve over 60 FPS in everything I play. Given the ambient noise of the rest of my system, and my house in general, I never hear the EVGA cooler running at all, and it seems to do a great job at keeping the temperatures well within safe limits no matter what.
So, why did I choose this specific card over others in it's price range? I wanted something with very good performance that still had relatively low power consumption and a dual-link DVI port. A GTX 1080 doesn't perform quite as well as this card, but draws slightly more power. A GTX 1080ti does have noticeably better performance, but is way more power hungry. AMD cards are all far too power hungry for their performance level. The 2080 and 2080ti cards are all far too expensive for me, and don't have DVI ports anyway. I did consider a 2060, but the larger, faster VRAM and more ray-tracing cores means this should perform better in future games, even many years from now.
Overall, I am quite happy with my decision, but I still can't give it 5 stars considering the poor quality control shown by the first, defective card that I received.
