About the author

Chris Adamson has taught dimensional modeling to thousands of students world-wide. He is faculty member at The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), teaches at conference events and provides onsite education.
Through his company Oakton Software LLC, Chris works with customers to develop data warehousing strategies, identify and prioritize projects, design solutions, and manage implementations. His customers have included Fortune 500 companies, government entities and software tool vendors.
Chris's latest book is Star Schema: The Complete Reference (McGraw-Hill 2010). He is author of Mastering Data Warehouse Aggregates, and co-author of Data Warehouse Design Solutions, both published by Wiley.
Chris also contributes to many TDWI publications, and blogs about data warehousing at StarSchemaCentral.com.

easy to follow along. good diagrams. this is better then the other books the one from the bill inum? is harder toi understand. the person that wrote this book was a student of that guy. this person did a better job to explain + you do not need to cross reference pages as all explanations are given linearly. the other book jumped all over the place and it was harder to follow. I took the Data warehouse workshop at BCIT and loved this book. Its actually worth a read when dealing sql database. People taking a data quality course should also get this book as it teaches you how to organize your data and make it useful for business.

Getting the right data model and knowing about different modelling methodologies to reference and quote in meetings is far far more powerful than people realise.

Es concisa, clara y precisa en sus explicaciones, orientada a la práctica (pero sin detenerse en particularidades de un SGBD o herramienta BI), progresiva en su exposición de técnicas de modelado (arranca desde los fundamentos y finaliza analizando cuestiones de rendimiento), muy bien organizada (fundamentos, estrellas, dimensiones, hechos, rendimiento y herramientas) y fácil de reutilizar como manual de referencia.
Reseñar su cualidad para distanciarse de polémicas sobre arquitecturas (Inmon vs. Kimball), destacando por encima de sus diferencias sus coincidencias en la importancia que ambas conceden al modelado dimensional, que es el tema y objetivo del libro. No obstante, el tratamiento de diferentes tipos de arquitectura resultará probablemente escueto y superficial en exceso.
De similar defecto adolece la última parte del libro sobre herramientas y documentación (100 páginas aprox.).
Para terminar, este libro decepcionará a quienes busquen un texto más completo sobre data warehouse (tipo las "biblias" clásicas de Kimball), lo cual es un objetivo fuera del propósito, alcance y extensión del mismo.
