Was disappointed when I received the "top" half of the feeder. I was quickly replaced with a complete unit! I am placing it inside an enclosure to keep the seed dry. Great "old school" feeder that will last for years.

Works well up to a certain size of birds. When birds grow larger, the container needs to be fastened or hung as it will get tipped over. I also place a wider deep dish below it to catch spills. It has to be raised to avoid littler getting in.
Initially I was desperate and picked up the one that didn't have the jar fitting at the same time as when I got the chicks - birds quickly out grow it, within 3 weeks. This model, can last a lot longer, up to at least 10+ weeks.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really love these

I have tried many chicken feeders, and all of them before were plastic. These however, clean much nicer and fit to my mason jars, so the glass cleans much easier as well. These are sooo cheap compared to the plastic ones and are 10x nicer! I bought them a second time and have some in my quail coop, some in my baby chick coop, and some in my adult chicken coop. They’re by far one of my favorite feeders.

I prefer these metal feeders and waterere over the the plastic ones for looks and durability. I normally buy these in the store, but they were out the last couple times I went. I've bought these many times and they fit with any MASON/BALL jars. As long as the jar has a standard opening. Obviously they don't work with like spaghetti jars or such unless they have the tradition Mason jar top. These are the perfect size for 1-12 chicks or a decent amount of Coturnix Quail depending on what size jar you put on them. These last forever if you don't leave them outside to rust.

Years ago my sister gave everyone in our family one of these feeders with a canning jar full of candy attached for Easter. It was a hit. I wanted something to hold candy in our guest room as our friends love candy. I was happy to find this. It worked perfectly.

This feeder works with a variety of jars and is easy to fill the first time. You put feed in a jar, screw this base on the jar like a lid, then invert things.

The lip that contacts the top of the jar is wider than necessary. It forms a shelf on which feed sits, which can make things a little messy.

When it comes time to refill, there will always be feed left in the base, and probably some in the jar. This is when things get messy. You can't just flip things over again: the feed in the base will spill out, though some will end up in the jar. If you do it over a container, you can catch the feed that spills, of course, but it will be messy. Once you've separated the lid and jar, you can shake the base to get the rest of the feed out, if desired, but that will increase the mess.

Cleaning the interior is awkward. You need to get all the feed out, so the problems above apply. Once empty, it's impossible to scrub everything inside the base. You can soak it and swirl water around in it, of course, but you can't get it really clean that way. The openings, including the center one are too small to get things inside to wipe or clean everything.

If the two parts of the base could be separated, it would make it much easier to deal with feed left in the base and to clean.
