I returned the item with no problems. Since I had already completed the task for which I bought it, I did nothing further. However, the manufacturer contacted me and offered me a replacement, which I declined since I received a refund. They insisted that they wanted to compensate me for a bad experience and so I agreed to accept it with the proviso that I would indicate that this review was updated based on a free sample. My reviews are never biased, but you have been warned in case you are a suspicious reader..

It arrived with days, shipped from Amazon. I tested it and immediately noticed that the blue power light came on when the USB cable was plugged into the laptop. I also added the power adapter so that I could run 3.5" drives as well as 2.5".

I tested three older drives that had been sitting around -- a Seagate Momentus XT first gen hybrid drive 500GB (2.5" laptop drive), amd a pair of older 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drives. The Momentus had given me massive trouble, and it showed with a very poor speed scoe of around 35MB/s. The two Caviars ran much faster than USB 2.0 could have done, so I knew that this thing runs at full speed, as others have reported. One of those was a refurb and was dead silent, but about 10% slower. The other was very fast but wicked noisy. Go figure.

So ... I went from a 1 star DOA review to a 5 star review. How?

I raised it to 4 stars for the superb customer service.. The 5th star is for the superb performance in a very compact package. I cannot speak highly enough of either the company or the item itself. Make of that what you will.

Would have liked to use it for a fast copy of my dying raid scratch and video drive, but alas, it is DOA. Since I have an older USB 2 dock that is perfectly reliable, I am running it overnight and will return it. To bad, so sad ...

My current PC came with a crappy DVD/CD player. But rather than pay to remove and install a different player I purchased this handy attachment and was able to breath new life in to my old, reliable and faster DVD/CD drive from my other computer.

The connection was very easy and the USB 3.0 can easily keep up with the 75x CD mode from my drive. Ripping or Burning CDs is a lot easier now.

Why buy a external DVD/CD player when you can just reuse a functioning unit and make your own external drive. Well worth the money.

This USB 3.0 to SATA cable works perfectly fine with both 2.5 and 3.5 inch hard drives as described by the seller! The quality of the cable is very good and does not feel flimsy at all. My 2.5 inch hard drive did not need the power cable at all and I was able to access all of its files without any problems. The cable also works with desktop and laptop optical disc drives. This was definitely a good purchase!

This SATA converter has come in handy so many times. Unlike other less expensive cables, this one comes with an AC power adapter so that you can use it with drives that require more juice than what USB can provide. Works well for both hard drives and SSD drives. The only slight drawback is that it is a bit more fiddly, with three separate pieces (vs. the convenience of a single cable of other units). I've purchased several Anker products and I trust them for quality and excellent customer service.

This adapter has a very small form factor and the extra power plug is optional, depending on what type of SATA drive you are connecting. I really like that it can handle both 2.5in laptop drives and 3.5in desktop hard drives. When connecting a 2.5in laptop drive, the extra power is not required, so for regular day-to-day use, it's very easy to carry around.

I've been using this for almost two years, and have never been disappointed. It's great for transferring files from broken laptops. The USB 3.0 speeds are excellent, and the small size is great for portability. My only complaint is the size of the AC Adapter. It's by far the biggest part of the whole set. Still, everything together is barely the size of a baseball, so it's not too bad.

This is a nice compact and very handy device for connecting any SATA hard drive that is not inclosed in PC or in its own enclosure and it comes with its own power adapter enabling me to use it with 3.5" drives. I regularly backup my stuff onto older hard drives and this Anker unit makes it easy and convenient to connect to my PC and it is USB 3 making it relatively fast. Also, this unit is easily recognized by Windows without and time lag etc. By far it is the best unit that I have tried for my purposes.
