Connect up to seven USB 3.0, 2.0, or 1.1 devices to a single port on any computer. Fully plug and play, devices can be hot-swapped, supports USB over-current protection. Attractive piano black with per-port blue LEDs.

Compatibility

Featuring the VIA VL812 Rev B2 USB 3.0 hub chipset updated to firmware version 9095 for maximum compatibility with almost all USB 3.0 hosts. Supports Microsoft Windows 8.1 through XP, Mac OS X, and Linux kernels 3.0 and later. Apple SuperDrive not compatible. Older Mac Pros with USB 3.0 PCI Express add-on cards may not work with this or any USB 3.0 hub. Full forward and backward compatibility between USB 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 hosts and devices. Not recommended for use with older TI, Fresco Logic, Etron, or Wistron USB 3.0 host controllers. Requires no driver installation (although individual devices may require drivers). 2.4Ghz wireless devices such as keyboard/mouse receivers, Bluetooth and WiFi adapters, may not work in close proximity to USB 3.0 devices or hubs.

Power and Charging

Comes with a premium 5V 5A 25W UL certified power supply. The hub provides charging on ports 1 & 7 using new, advanced compatibility for devices which support the new BC 1.2 charging standard: charge and sync (“Charging Downstream Port” or CDP mode) at up to 1.5A per port and dedicated charging with only the hub’s power adapter and no PC attached (“Dedicated Charging Port” or DCP mode) at up to 2.4A per port with dedicated Apple 1A, 2A, 2.4A, and Samsung 2.4A, charging signals. Unfortunately, USB charging is not well standardized. Charge and sync only works with BC 1.2 compatible devices such as the Apple iPhone and iPad (Apple 30 pin dock connector iPads will not charge), plus various Android and Windows devices are also supported. Works like a charm.

Very well designed and sturdy. It replaces a Satechi 10 ports that failed due to the connector being the small USB3 flat design. That broke real fast.

This unit has the more robust Square USB 3 connector.

Much better design.

Also the blue led comes on when you plug a device that becomes active. so you can tell drives that go to sleep.

Three years ago, I bought a very similar USB hub from Anker. I really liked this hub and still use every day. Eventually, it went out of order and I needed another one with the same design. I then ordered this Plugable 8-port USB 3.0 which is an awfully similar hub: same design, same lettering, same everything. Side to side, they are the same! (see pictures). The differences are the two charging outputs of the new hub, a lower cost.. and availability, I guess all these products are OEM in reality.

I really like this hub: the horizontal design is perfect for my needs and desk setup (I generally don't like upward USB openings). Speed and power are there. Outputs are enough spaced to insert many USB keys at the same time.

I recommend it.

Purchased 2 of these for 2 Microsoft Surface Pros to connect mice (one wireless), keyboards (one wireless), flash drives, hard drives, an e-reader, cameras and one 23" HP Touch Monitor. All devices work extremely well. This included migrating large amounts of data from the flash drive to the hard drive both connected to the Plugable USB Hub. I was surprised and pleased with the performance. I am very happy with my choice.

Has a somewhat large desktop footprint with cables and wires connected, but I don't really see any viable alternative.

It falls short from excellent if it were not at boot time. I need to turn on the computer first then wait for Windows 8.1 to be fully started and then I could plug in the cable of the Plugable 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub into the computer. If I plug before windows 8.1 is fully started, it might not not detect the hub with all its ports plugged. For me its a minor issue because the product works flawlessly afterwards. By the way, it might be Windows 8.1 problem because there has been lots of issues and bugs recognizing USB ports. You can google the subject.

I have an iMac and use Mavericks. This works no problem with it and wonderfully expands one of the four USB 3.0 ports on that back into 7.

These things typically have problems with HDD that consume a lot of power, and indeed they cannot charge an iPad (it DOES charge an iPhone though) if you were wondering, however I have the other 3 "real" USB ports for that. I am using this hub for all my iDevices (except iPads) and TomTom and thumb drives and the results prove this to be a terrific accessory for the Mac. Great job Plugable!

I bought this because I have 8 external HD's and my PC has about 7 usb ports and I've also got quite a few other things besides the HD's to plug into them. So with 7 HD's plugged into it...and only 4 of them actually on this hub has 4 lit up with the blue leds. Looks good. And with either Win 7 or Linux OS's all 4 HD's are shown in the computer dialog window. So this greatly reduced cable clutter behind my PC. The fact that it itself is powered may help but not having a un-powered usb hub to compare I don't know for sure.
