YES works to reduce and prevent homelessness by providing shelter, education and transitional supports for youth and families in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. Over the holiday season, this list contains essential items that our clients need, but also items that we hope to wrap and give youth in shelter if they are with us over the holidays. Last year, the Emergency Shelter was completely full at Christmas.
This book is an amazing read about Jesse Thistle's extremely difficult past, how he moved through it, and began to thrive. As a story many of the youth in shelter can relate to, we'd love to be able to provide them with a copy of this awesome book.
Music, podcasts, and conversations with loved ones can all really help through a tough time. All of these comforts can be tough in shelter, but made easier by ear buds.

When a young person comes to shelter, they very often have nothing. It is nice to be able to give them what they need to maintain proper hygiene, but we don't have a budget for these items, and depend entirely on donations for this care.
A number of young people in our RISE Youth Housing program have been very excited about painting. And with artists in the community mentoring youth over zoom, these canvas' will really help them to get inspired.

Currently there are 24 youth in our RISE Youth Housing Program. A bluetooth speaker will help them make their space comfortable and welcoming, as they take care of themselves in the safety and security of their own space.
