This book is very basic and probably most appropriate for someone who is not familiar with apple technology at all. This is my first ipad, but I still found this book too simplistic despite my limited technical knowledge.

HASH(0xa24dfb04) out of 5 stars Excellent for iPad / iOS 7 newbies (like me) Dec 27 2013

Format: Kindle Edition
I got my first iPad a few weeks ago and found it fairly intuitive to use but had a strong urge to learn more about how to get some things done. I bought this book from Amazon in Kindle format which runs on the iPad using an app; this was also my first e-book. (It can also be purchased at the Apple Store but is cheaper on Amazon at this writing; the Kindle App for iPad works well.) I always learn better by trying things out after reading about them in a manual, and going through this e-book and experimenting, I realized the iPad can do very many things well I was not aware of.

This book does not assume the reader has any prior experience with iPads or iOS. The labeled screenshots--numbered dots corresponding to numbered points in the text descriptions--are very helpful in showing the reader where to find certain settings.

If you have a new iPad in late 2013/early 2014, you will be using iOS7, so be sure to get a book like this one that was written for iOS7.

Is it better to get this in e-book or hard copy format? This question cuts both ways. It is very helpful to always have it with you on the iPad. But on the other hand, tablet computers don't multitask as well as laptop computers; if you have this on the tablet in e-book format, when you want to try something out such as change a setting, you will have to temporarily exit the e-book app and go hunting on the iPad for the feature with which you want to experiment, then return to the e-book app. On the other hand, you will get good at iPad navigation doing this! Still if I had it to do over again, I think might have learned faster if I'd bought this in published book format rather than e-book, because there were many times when I had to keep referring back to the e-book app, sometimes several times on a page. (Maybe I need both formats!)

All in all, an excellent value and highly recommended.

I truly love it. Easy to understand, lots of illustrations and step by step. I am really learning more and more of how to use my iPad. I strongly recommended for beginners and intermediate levels.

I bought my iPad to use for remote work on my website and writing projects. Most "guides" to using them seem to focus on playing games and taking pictures. Even when Apple tries to pint out business uses, they seem to think charts and pie graphs are all that are needed. This "book" taught me a whole lot about using my iPad for writing and managing photos very quickly, and I expect to learn a lot more from it about the sort of uses I want to put my tablet to.

I personally found the Apple iPad Air manual to be very high level, didn't get into some of the underlying functions of the iPad Air, not sure why?? Looked around for a good manual and found this one from the publisher Que. Have dealt with this publisher for work and found them to be thorough and have enjoyed learning the ipad using this book. Good book...

Being an iOS instructor at a local senior computer club, I need to keep up with all the latest technology. I find manuals by Gary Rosenzweig to be informative and very easy to follow. I like that Amazon lets me preorder these books.
