About the Author
With a passion for digital microscopy and its application to unravel cancer, Michel Nederlof’s contributions to science have been focused on creating innovative technology and novel tools to help biologists gain new insights into cell and tissue biology. The secret to his career long success began with a mission to convert the world of video microscopy to digital (CCD) based camera technology, inside his garage. This grass roots approach to discovery eventually allowed him to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams as a “tool maker” including founding six biotech companies that created pioneering products in the areas of microscopy research, pharmaceutical drug discovery, and clinical diagnostics. His current company, Quantitative Imaging Systems (Qi), has been dedicated to an extensive collaboration with Oregon Health and Sciences University’s (OHSU) Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine (OCSSB) and, as founder and CTO, he is responsible for the imaging workflow at OHSU of many projects.
