This video doorbell is a really great value. Not sure why all the negative reviews but from what I’m seeing i suspect they either installed incorrectly or didnt read the descriptions. You could argue that if this many people are having issues than maybe theres an issue with the instructions or set up but i did it myself and it was a breeze.

When I received the doorbell, it was approximately 60% charged, more than enough to use right out of the box. I turned it on and downloaded the ring app. The hardest part of this whole process was registering on the ring app! Once i was registered, the doorbell was linked, and i moved into the Alexa app to download the ring skill. That was also a breeze and since I registered for ring already, i just signed in and i was good to go!

I pushed the doorbell button and it rang at the doorbell, on my phone, AND on my Echo Show. Worked just like that!

Installed the doorbell is super simple. This is where it should be impossible to mess up. First off, there’s several ‘required steps’ that the app walks you through to set up including the installation. The app adjusts the instructions depending on how you decide to install it, battery vs. Wired, mechanical chime vs. The ring chime, etc.

I opted for wired installation with a mechanical chime and i literally unscrewed my old doorbell, which is two screws and two wires, then i screwed the backplate to the wall, attached the wires to the ring, then put the ring on the backplate and added the two security screws. That’s it.

As you can see from the screenshot, the picture clarity is great and yes that’s the sun in the background, still looks good.

The only thing ill say is that the doorbell is large. It’s wider than i expected so be sure you have enough space to install it or opt for a smaller version. Also note this does not include an angle mount so if you need one, get one.

Hope that helps you.

UPDATE MARCH 2021
I had this doorbell installed throughout winter and I must say it was not built for that at all. If it below freezing outside then the doorbell won't be able to hold a charge and being hard wired isnt enough for it to charge up. I had to take the doorbell off the wall numerous times (this involves taking out the two security screws, unscrewing the two wires, and then charging for about 6 or 7 hours) during which time I'd have no doorbell and then have to reinstall it again. All of this in the freezing cold.

I'm sure the operating temp says something about this but it is fairly ridiculous that an outdoor device can't withstand our weather. if so, then it's not really an outdoor device.
