Fire those in Canada that bought off Are you getting the "freetime is not available in your country" error? This is what I did...

1. Make sure your device is registered using your amazon credentials. You do this on the actual device.
2. Goto amazon.COM *NOT* amazon.CA sign in and go to account>>manage account and devices. Under the devices tab you will see your new tablet. the "preferences" tab
4. Select country /region settings
5. Under current country Change to Canada
6. Select the "click here" link directly below
7. Click "learn about" link "transfer your kindle account to"
9. Congrats, your done and the nightmare is over!
10. Spend a few minutes wondering why this whole process is so convoluted and why it wasn't already clearly laid out or fixed in any way...
