I bought this for my in-laws so they could cut the cord. Now, they're older folk so they definitely don't utilize the Fire TV to it's full potential. That being said, there are a couple of things that Amazon could improve that would greatly increase the usability of the Fire TV for just about everyone.
1. Please, oh please stop putting pay-to-view media in search results. At the very least, allow this to be toggled off. There is so much paid content in the search results that my father-in-law just stopped using the Fire TV altogether.
2. I know it's an Amazon product but it would be really nice to be able to configure a default streaming service OTHER than Amazon Prime.
The hardware and software is otherwise pretty decent. It does bug out sometimes and I find myself having to restart playback more often than I'd like. But the interface feels pretty snappy and looks clean.
It would be a fantastic streaming service aggregator if Amazon weren't so rigid in their approach of shoving Amazon content down your throat. What a shame. I was considering a Fire TV cube for myself at one point. But after my experience with the Fire TV stick I've decided against that.
Bottom line: A decent device if you can swallow the Amazon marketing but not recommended for older folks who will just wonder why there's nothing they can watch.
