I had the basic version, and upgraded to the 4k for the new features. Here are a few of my findings so far to save some research on your end.

1) Netflix and Prime work in Canada with no issues on my end
2) The remote can in fact control both my non smart TV, and non smart blue ray player/receiver (does it through IR)
3) It does connects to the Echo Dot (see note below)
4) You can not use the dot to turn the TV/Receiver on and off. That has to be done with the voice remote
5) When I use the dot to ask Alexa to play a movie, all it does is takes me to a search result screen for what I asked for, and then I still have to use the remote to click it, and click play. Same with the voice remote. This is not how it describes the interaction however and the instructions clearly say it should start playing what I asked automatically, which I am disappointment about. I am still trying to work through it and if I solve for the issue I will update the post. FIX ***Turns out my "market place" was set to the USA. This is not a setting you can see, or change yourself, but Amazon support can. If you are having this issue mention this setting to ensure it's correctly set to Canada****
6) It's so crazy fast, almost zero time between clicking play and the movie/show starting.
7) Video quality is noticeably better then the basic stick, even without a 4k TV
