Let me start off by saying this ink is genuine and it works without any issues. I gave this 3 stars because of the dumb design of the PIXMA MG3120 when it comes to setting up the ink. I believe this also applies to other Canon printers.

I had 2 ink cartridges (black and color), which both ran out of ink, and I wanted to just buy some black ink since that's all I needed. I recycled the two empty ink cartridges and bought this one. When I got this black ink, I couldn't get the printer to work at all because for some dumb reason the printer requires a color ink cartridge to be present in the printer, regardless of whether it's empty or not. I basically had to spend another $30 for color ink even though I have no use for it.

My advice is to keep your empty cartridges until you are sure your printer doesn't have this problem. If you plan on using a combination of a full black ink cartridge and an empty color cartridge, you might run into an issue where the printing won't go ahead and you get an error message saying "The following ink cartridge may have run out". You can still proceed with printing in black with an empty color cartridge in the printer, just press and hold the stop/resume button until the LED beside the color ink indicator stops blinking.
