I won't go into the extras, though I think I heard they're the same as the previous hd 1080p version. The first movie, the best of the quadrilogy, is restored in 4k perfectly. Though the oversaturated colours that were pleasing...the look of the previous issues of the film...Going back to the 1991 laserdisc) are toned down, the sharpness and limitations of being sourced as film is still amazing. The grain is mostly not present except for night high contrast scenes. There's a dichotomy to great older film to video 4k uhd transfers ...the image is sharp yet soft...consistency is key here. Much can be said with the other 3 films...the third, though shot by another dp, mostly replicates the cinematographic look of the previous 3 ( dp Dougie slocombe). The third, the second best of the quadriliogy, is thin and undersaturated looking, though the sharpness is there. The dolby atmos sound is balanced (and mixed in a compressed fashion..no need for night settings) and loud ...adding a thrilling experience to viewing these hit films from masters Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas. Definitely acquire this set...in 4k it's an envelopping all encompassing passionate action series on archaeology and envious enemies. I like how early into the first one Indy is asked to show a picture of the ark to some gov't guys. He happens to have a big book right there, and opens it exactly to where the pic of it is. And there's a white dot on the screen. Thee filmmakers know it!! Like the ark, there are bigger things mostly magical and unspoken about.
Oh...I can tell it was transferred to 4k a couple years ago...my sony player can tell what the data thruput is and a bright lit scene is around 50mbps, the true hd 7.1 audio around 5mbps. However it's in 2.35 aspect ratio so the black bars reduce data. Universal's transfers for the recent released (and transferred) back to the future trilogy and animal house in 4k uhd have thruput averages, no matter the lighting, hovering around 80mbps. The only real problem with this set is the cheap casing it comes in. Not thick cardboard, stacked discs in 2 spots making it hard as to where which disc goes in first.
