Not a bad book, just not what I was hoping for
July 28, 2015
I didn't get what I was hoping for with this book. I was expecting it to have nice, full page paintings and accompanying text analyzing the choice of colour. What I got instead was a book that talks largely about how university students learn about colours by cutting different shades of colour paper. Nearly all of the images are simply blocks of colour that demonstrate illusions of colour. I found that the choice of language was needlessly complex and bordered on thesaurus abuse. It was not an easy read for me and I did not find it remarkably interesting. I can see how this book would be a useful accompaniment to what one learns in art college, but it was too dense for a layman like me with a casual interest in art.
