Sara Donati never fails to provide many hours of entertainment while at the same time teaching. This book reminds us of the obstacles faced by women wishing to become doctor in a n age where women were to be seen but not heard.. We owe a great deal to these brave women. Even more difficult for one of the doctors was the fact that she was a mulatto. This book is an eye opening view of their struggles and successes. A very good read.
I love this Series or the the previous Series associated with this book and look forward to the next book after this one. The Character's are very much alive and in depth. The current era is very frustrating for a modern female to read about and understand what the female population had to put up with at that time. Love hearing about the evolution of Medical practice especially for Females.
Before ordering this book I had already read the Wilderness series by Sara Donati & enjoyed how she writes and the stories that keep you interested from beginning till end. The Gilded Hour gripped me from the very first page and kept me enthralled till the end. I liked the time that the book is set in because of the history of New York and it's diverse ethnicity. All the main characters were intriguing and totally human with real emotions. Loved the fact that both were female doctors in a time when this was not common and they were both strong in their conviction to help women with issues of the era. I would highly recommend this novel and hope there is another one to follow.
Whether you are continuing on from the Wilderness series or are reading Sara Donati for the first time, you will enjoy this read. Sara Donati is a wonderful storyteller. Her characters are multi dimensional. You will find yourself wanting more
