If you've ever taken a developmental psychology class you can skip this book - I thought it would offer more info to build on, but the principles are more suited for people who have no background whatsoever in child development.
What an excellent read. After reading this book did I realize how my parents parented me. Some of the obstacles I faced growing up and even to this day, after reading the book I was able to pin point where things could have been different, had my parents read this book. I love that everything is science based and backed by solid research, not opinions or biases.
Only on the second chapter now and will update once I have completed the book. So far. It's very easy to follow and has great information. Would recommend for any new parent wanting to parent their child in a gentle way. Stop the cycle.
I wish I had this when my child was young - I am finding it helpful to understand my now adult child who suffers from anxiety. In today's world with "technology and children's exposure to screen time" this book would certainly help parents understand how important it is to help integrate the emotional and logical sides of the human brain. Understand why our primal brain is a benefit but can also hijack children to be "out-of-control". A must read for parents, or any caregiver of children. This book should be part of our "educators" training. If you are a parent who is struggling with communication and instilling calm behaviour - this book is an easy read, lots of examples and explains the how to, without sounding silly. I highly recommend it. I also purchased the "Discipline without drama" and can hardly wait to crack the cover, if it is anywhere near as useful as this book it will be well worth the money!
If you're familiar with CPS, Self-Reg, and EF skills and are looking for a good way to flesh it out- this book will do it. Very easy to read, conversational and packed with specific action steps. My only complaint is that it references a lot of science but there's no citations.
This book is very interesting, informative and easy to read. It explains so much about what is going on in your child’s brain and gives great tools for a whole new and better approach to dealing with issues that arise as they are growing, developing and learning. I would highly recommend it to anyone involved in a child’s life. This is a really good book!
