Arrived in time. Great guide for novice gardener and a very helpful tool for those of us liking plants and flowers and wanting to better our knowledge. It's separated in section and everything is really explained pretty clearly. Really love this book and we already used it a couple of time to trim our trees and search for the pests eating the leaves of our shrubs. I would definitely recommend this.
I am hooked on paper, “in the hand” books. Good one to add to gardening library. Lots of helpful advice for the Canadian climate and reference material for home veg gardeners and landscapers too. Beautiful photos.
We see a lot of gardening books from the US that are useful only to a certain extent, considering our climate. Soo, finding decent gardening books with a Canadian spin is useful. I picked this book up based on a recommendation at a gardening shop, and am glad I did. The version I got is softcover, but there's a hardcover version too.
The book starts with the usual advice about planning your garden, planting it, and caring for it as time goes by, all with a focus on Canadian climate zones. There's separate sections of the book for growing your own veggies and fruit, which are divided into categories. When it comes to plants, they are divided into categories too, based on characteristics (such as ground cover sun-loving or ground cover shade loving) which makes it easy to find the right sort of plants for your planned garden (or, as in my case, finding out why something doesn't grow too well where I planted it!). There's photos throughout, which are nice. The tone of the book is clear and easy to read. I tend to sample parts of this book at intervals when I have a few minutes, especially when I want to pick up something for a specific are in the garden. Overall, a handy, well presented book for Canadian gardeners.
