I've always used a point and shoot camera until recently. After purchasing a Digital Rebel XTi I quickly realized that I had a lot of learning to do, not only about the camera and all it's functions, but how to take pictures as well.
This book has become my "fall to" book. Where there is a question about "how do I" this book is the first one opened. It is full of not only information about how the XTi works and all it's settings, but also has an amazing amount of information on how to use all the different functions to capture the type of picture you are trying to (sports shots, night photos, portraits, etc...).
Great information in a well thought out package.
For more detailed information on how to better use exposure settings, to see creatively, etc... look elsewhere (i.e. Bryan Peterson's books). For a well rounded introduction... this is the book.
This is a wonderful book, with plenty of clear information about Xti/400D. It is written completely in a very personal style which I deem much better than other guides' ones. What makes it a real 'hit' is the multitude of colored pictures accompanying almost every prime instructions. It is a MUST have to go together with the Canon Xti/400D Manual.
