This is a pocket-sized book of 250 pages designed to be helpful to tourists. There’s a 15-page introduction to the language, basic pronunciation and grammar, and some useful phrases, beginning with ‘Do you speak English?’ It’s then organised in sections covering popular activities such as camping, shopping, romance etc, and including such essential phrases as ‘Does your company have a green policy?’ ‘I’ve locked the keys inside (my car)’ ‘I love you’ and ‘I won’t do it without protection’. The actual dictionary section is comprised of only 31 pages (English/Portuguese) and 29 pages (Portuguese/English). It won’t be as helpful as I’d hoped it might be in understanding Brazilian poetry, but the grammar section is a good start. Even though it’s not quite what I needed (my bad), I think it’s excellent for its intended use, and I should give it 5 stars. Keith Davies Jones
Purchased as a gift for someone else. Arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I'm sure it's great, I've had other versions of Lonely Planet phrasebook (Thai, Latin American Spanish) and been pleased which is why I purchased this for a friend.
