Of course I'd heard of Sheldon Kagan, but I didn't realize his life covered so much ground. From halls, stages and clubs where his events took place, to dressing rooms and car rides with music legends he met from the 1960s onward, the book includes great first-hand accounts of Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Bo Diddley, Miles Davis, Dionne Warwick, and a bunch of other famous names. If you lived in Montreal over the last 50 years and have ever attended a wedding, party, or concert, chances are you've been to a Sheldon Kagan event.
I whipped through the book quickly -- it's a fun, easy read packed with Kagan's personal photos as well as pics of the artists and their original signed contracts! Don't know how he hung onto them for so long, but nice touch. I also found it cool to see photos of Montreal's night life from back then.
