A lot of fun to read as author Steve Hely is neither a beaten-down cranky cynic nor a wide-eyed naive optimist about his encounters through Latin America. Having read this I hope there's a part two where he hits the nations he missed--mainly those on the eastern side of South America.
It's also a book that should be a must-read for anyone fearful of traveling in Third World lands where you don't speak the language all that well. Hely shows you how you don't need to fear for your life but just trust your instincts . . . although you better have good ones at times.
