SEE UPDATE: LOWERED TO ONE STAR
August 25, 2018
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm a long ago licensed hairdresser who never entered the field, but these scissors are the same style as the ones I trained with back in 1984. Like any tool, hand feel and fit is a personal thing, and I've always liked the more compact sized blades for the better control they offer. These scissor grips have some play for the fingers to fit comfortably, so even larger fingers shouldn't have a problem fitting inside. The fit and finish is exceptional for the money, with a silky smooth look and feel all over, but if you're wanting only elite high end tools, these scissors probably aren't going to cut it. *heh heh*
I haven't cut hair for several years, but after 10 years of having one length hair I decided to give myself some ultra short textured bands this year, and I really love how the sharpness of the blades and smooth function of these scissors got the job done with crisp ease. Keeping it real here; quality hair tools cost big money, so I doubt these scissors would be suitable for use in a professional setting due to the frequent wear, but for occasional/personal use, you can't beat the quality you get for the money. I've no idea how long these scissors will maintain their sharpness, but because I LOVE this particular classic design and I expect to keep my bangs, I bought a second pair to have for when the original becomes dull.
I definitely recommend these scissors for casual and home use, because they're affordable, comfortable, impressively sharp, and have a great fit and finish.
UPDATE: NOV. 12/18: While partway through cutting my wet bangs, the scissors went into sudden dead mode and wouldn't cut my hair AT ALL. They still moved smoothly, but they would just bend the hair. This was only the third time I used the scissors to cut my bangs, but luckily I had the backup pair. Ha! Even they were in the same dead mode fresh out of the package! I had to finish cutting my bangs with my cuticle scissors, and all I can say is it's a good thing they're supposed to be chunky textured.
Before tossing both scissors, I gave them one last test on a small section of dried bangs and discovered they cut through dry hair just fine. How bizarre. And how pointless. Obviously, I no longer recommend these Mac's shears. They looked and felt great, but there's definitely something inherently defective in how they're made.
