I loved this story so much! The characters were relatable. There was some humour with Grams. I enjoy getting to see characters from past standalones in the series. Great author. If you haven't read her you definitely should!
Only Love by Melanie Harlow is the third standalone romance in her One and Only Series . This is the story of a quirky and meddlesome grandmother, a stoic retired marine, and the granddaughter that doesn't expect to find love in the arms of her gran's neighbor.
Stella has had a rough time of it lately. Dumped on her birthday by a guy she wasn't even that into and now, concerned over her grandmother's sudden vision and hearing problems - she takes a trip to see her. Realizing when she arrives that nothing is actually wrong with her she ends up being pushed towards the brooding neighbor next door.
Ryan is solitary. He likes being alone and being left alone, so when his neighbor starts the matchmaking with her granddaughter he wants to just shut down and be invisible but Stella is everything he never knew he needed or wanted. But can he get outside of his own issues and learn to be okay with feelings his emotions again or will he shut down permanently?
Well-written, well-paced and both heart-warming and heart-breaking at times. I loved this book and will definitely be going back to read the stories of the other two sisters. Enjoy!
Only Love is Book 3 in Melanie Harlow’s One and Only series! This one was a mix of funny but horrible situations (getting dumped on your birthday because you aren’t physical enough, when you thought your boyfriend was going to propose!), lots of swoon-worthy bits (a new swing!), good old fashioned “how to get and keep a man” advice from Grams, and heart wrenching moments from Ryan’s brother-in-arms. I loved the characters in this book. Each was developed in a way that had you feeling like you knew these people personally, and you were as invested in their progress as they were. I must admit, I loved Grams with her advice and subtle trickery. She just knows Stella needs a man like Ryan (the ‘boy’ who lives next to Grams and has been helping her maintain her home.
Stella has avoided love and she believes she doesn’t need the soul impact of great sex in her relationships. But when she gets dumped for not being physical with her boyfriend, her sisters tell her she needs a physical relationship. Who knew she would find it with the man next door to her beloved Grams. But Ryan has issues of his own to deal with. He returned from duty to find out his wife had been cheating on him for a year and they never really loved each other. Then there was a child that he befriended that turned into a suicide bomber. Ryan can turn off his feelings like a switch, and he needs to do that so that he can continue to survive. Then he meets Stella, and he has to react to falling in love. Thanks to Grams, he gets another chance to turn himself back on, and spend his life with Stella.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
Two lost souls searching for someone to love and protect their hearts, Melanie creates characters so real that you instantly connect with them. In this case Ryan, an ex-marine is trying to fit into civilian life, deal with his feelings of guilt over lost comrades lives, and take a chance at having feelings again. Stella has also had heart ache, never really finding that someone special, and wondering if she ever will find her true love. I truly applauded the way Melanie delved into Ryan's psyche showing us what being a veteran is like and how it has effected his life. Some real life moments, and soul wrenching sadness kept me reeling with emotion throughout this incredible story!! I loved the way Stella, being a therapist was able to help Ryan come to terms with his past. Their relationship was beautiful and I just couldn't get enough!! I must say Stella's "Gram" was uplifting and hilarious. I loved her wit and her meddling made me laugh out loud many times. The entire story was so well written and all the characters were so life like as only Melanie Harlow can do!! I recommend you read the entire series as Stella's sisters Maren and Emme are also amazing characters you won't want to miss!!!
Only Love is the final instalment in the One and Only series by Melanie Harlow. It is a true Melanie Harlow Romance. I find every book I read by Melanie always outdoes the one before it. I love how in Only Love there is a realism to it with Ryan being a Ex-Marine Veteran. Melanie talks about all of the things that Veteran's going through after deployment and getting back into civilian life. I felt like I really connected with Stella and how she doesn't see her potential and thinks she's supposed to settle for the Buzzkill when her hero is right next door to her Gram. I fell in love with her scheming Gram and her matching making her granddaughter with someone who she knows she will love and have her love fully reciprocated. The chemistry between Ryan and Stella is explosive in which they try to avoid their feelings for each other and perfect with how their story takes shape. I'm thrilled they both got their happily ever after.
When you read a book I one day what does that say. Amazing. Incredible. Brilliant. Melanie once again done it. I mean you have the perfect set up. Wounded man, wounded women. He’s scars from having served as a Marine. Hers for being dumped on her birthday. Stella and Ryan. A couple you will fall in love with. He’s trying to start a new life after his wife left him. She’s trying to forget the moment when she thought she’d be proposed to only to be told she wasn’t good enough. But their way to each other wasn’t a coincidence. Let’s just say a lovely wine named Grams had a lot so with it. Let yourself be taken to a world of firsts, of discovering what love is and what it means to find the one. But nothing comes easy.....even when you know this is meant to be. A wonderful, sexy, humours story and one not to be missed for sure. A definite recommend. Five stars by far♥️
Oh my heart I loved this story, so beautiful and packs a lot of feelings. Stella and Ryan are the perfect match both suffer in their own way and help each other like no one can down to their very soul and theirs no turning back when you have met the one and everything just falls into place and the road is not easy as they try to accept what is happening. I adored Grams she was awesome and so cool in all her scheming, along with the closeness of the sisters. This will truly touch your heart in the most beautiful way, as Stella and Ryan find their way.
I've really enjoyed the books in this series, which can all be read as standalones, but this one stood out. Why? There's multiple reasons. Ryan and Stella's story was fantastic. Their developing relationship and the love they formed was amazing. And then there's Grams. She was outstanding! Funny, caring, loving and very very smart! Pick this one up and get ready to feel all the emotions!
